For various social and economic reasons, gambling is heavily regulated in South Africa. The National Gambling Act (NGA) provides for the regulation of gambling activities in South Africa, and ensures the co-ordination of the concurrent national and provincial legislative competence over matters relating to gambling. It sets out a licensing framework for casinos, racing, gambling, betting and wagering, and sets out uniform norms and standards that apply throughout the country.

Our team has extensive experience in working with the NGA, the regulations under the NGA and the various provincial laws and are in a position to offer superior and committed services in all aspects of gambling.
The Werksmans team of experts ensures that clients stay abreast of legislative and regulatory changes that may impact their businesses. This involves keeping clients informed about proposed bills, draft amendment laws, regulations, market developments, and international best practices related to the licensing and regulation of gambling activities. The team conducts educational and strategic meetings with clients, and drafts written representations for submission to national and provincial gambling authorities, Parliamentary Portfolio Committees, and other relevant authorities as needed. When required, the team makes oral representations to these authorities regarding developments.
Furthermore, we advise and assist clients in the application process for licenses, addressing any issues that may arise.
