Shayne Krige is the Head of the Investment Funds practice area. He also forms part of the Private Equity practice and Corporate Mergers & Acquisitions areas. Shayne specialises in investment funds; private equity; and international transactions. His expertise covers the range of investment fund types – from hedge funds, pension funds to private equity and venture capital funds – extending to corporate/mergers & acquisitions as well as corporate structuring. Shayne has acted for investment funds; fund managers and investors as well as major corporations seeking to invest into and out of South Africa.

  • Represented several South African and international clients in establishing and operating hedge funds, private equity funds, venture capital funds, investment management and advisor companies including those established in South Africa, Luxembourg, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Mauritius, Malta, Isle of Man, Jersey, Guernsey and France.
  • Acted as South African counsel to One Thousand & One Voices, a fund blending philanthropy and investment in assets across the African continent, as international legal counsel to the Evolution One fund, a fund investing into clean technology investments in sub-Saharan Africa and Barak, a trade finance fund investing across Africa.
  • Represented LPs investing into private equity funds across Africa including major banks and several family offices.
  • Advising international banks on operations in South Africa including major Swiss and Japanese banks.
  • Represented founders of Skype in establishment of international communications business.
  • Litigation experience including acting for the principals of the Belvedere Group in relation to allegations of administering one of the biggest Ponzi schemes in history involving Mauritius, Guernsey, the Cayman Islands and South Africa.
  • Regular speaker at international conferences on investment funds.
