ABOUT

Pierre practises as a director in the Dispute Resolution Department of Werksmans Attorneys. His practice consists predominantly of arbitration, dealing with high-quantum commercial disputes across a range of sectors. With a particular interest in international arbitration, Pierre has been repeatedly published on the topic, and contributes the South Africa chapter to the World Arbitration Reporter, an international comparative publication. Pierre is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. He serves on the Management Committee of the Arbitration Foundation of Southern Africa.

Pierre obtained his BA (Hons) in Latin at the University of Cape Town and the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam in 1996. His course work included transcribing, translating, editing and commenting on the previously untranscribed Casus Codicis of the 12-century legal scholar Wilhelmus de Cabriano.

After completing his law degree in 1998, Pierre qualified as an attorney in 2001. In 2002 he acted as the legislative draftsman, speechwriter and legal researcher to the Leader of the Opposition in the South African parliament. Upon his return to the profession, Pierre practised in Cape Town until 2006, when he joined Werksmans in Johannesburg, where he has remained since.
