Monique Pansegrouw is a Director and advise across two practice areas: Disputes and Healthcare & Life Sciences. Monique served her articles at Werksmans from 2003 to 2004 and was admitted as an attorney in 2004. She has been a litigation practitioner since 2005 and specialises in general commercial litigation, which includes arbitration and mediation proceedings, administrative and regulatory law, healthcare and regulatory matters, disputes and general advice, and court proceedings relating to petroleum products and licensing legislation.

Monique is also part of Werksmans’ Knowledge Management Department and is responsible for advising the Litigation Department of the latest legal developments affecting litigation practices, as well as developments affecting the legal practice as a whole. Monique presents lectures to the first-year candidate attorneys at Werksmans during their induction programme, providing guidance and training to the candidate attorneys to equip them to deal with the demands of legal practice, at an early stage of their careers.

Monique served her first term, of three years, as a Council Member of the Gauteng Provincial Council of the Legal Practice Council (“GPC”) as well as a Committee Member of the GPC’s Professional Affairs Committee and the GPC’s Extensions Committee, respectively, from 2019 and commenced her second term in April 2022.

  • General commercial litigation, which includes arbitration and mediation proceedings.
  • Administrative and regulatory law, which includes advice and litigation pertaining to the Promotion of Access to Information Act No 2 of 2000 ("PAIA") and the Promotion of Administrative Justice Act No 3 of 2000 ("PAJA") for various clients in different industries.
  • Building and construction law and construction related matters and disputes, which includes successfully representing China Overseas Engineering Group Co., Ltd, known as COVEC (a Chinese construction and engineering company that is a subsidiary of China Railway Group Limited, which is organised as a large collection of engineering and design firms) in two separate arbitrations relating to the Vaal River Eastern Subsystem Augmentation Project.
  • Advising and representing the South African Reserve Bank in various matters, which includes PAIA and PAJA related matters and court applications and advice and court proceedings pertaining to the contravention of Exchange Control Regulations.
  • Advice and court proceedings relating to the Petroleum Products Act No 120 of 1977 in respect of wholesale, retail and site licence applications, which includes representing various agribusinesses.
