ABOUT

Lisa Appelgryn is a Senior Associate in the Labour & Employment practice area, advising on labour and employment-related opinions and disputes. She holds an LLB from the University of the Witwatersrand, where she was on the Dean’s Merit List. She advises clients in both the public and private sectors. In particular, she advises on the Labour Relations Act, Basic Conditions of Employment Act, Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act, Employment Equity Act, amongst others. She also has experience in assisting public sector clients in drafting regulations, notices, and guidelines. Lisa also represents clients in disciplinary hearings, arbitrations, and CCMA and Labour Court proceedings. In addition, she has experience in conducting investigations.

  • Represented PPC Ltd in defending an unfair discrimination claim in relation to a BBEE employee share incentive scheme,
  • Advised the Department of Employment and Labour on the COVID-19 Directive issued in terms of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Advised the Department of Employment and Labour on the Compensation Commissioner's Notice (compensation for occupationally acquired covid-19), and Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act.
  • Represented Metrobus (SOC) Ltd in urgent proceedings to interdict strike action.
