Director Kathleen Louw advises in the Arbitration; Construction & Engineering; Dispute Resolution; and Mining & Resources practice areas. Kathleen’s areas of specialisation include general commercial litigation; contractual disputes; corporate governance; and shareholder/director disputes. She holds a Master’s Degree in International Litigation, Arbitration and Dispute Resolution from University College London and has been a Director at Werksmans since 2016. Highlights of her career include lecturing the Introduction to Legal Studies course at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (2010).

Represents and advises on: 

  • a public transport operator on its contractual obligations in respect of its relationships with various specialised entities who design, construct and operate aspects of the South African rapid rail system;
  • various mining houses and companies (including their subsidiaries) in respect of their global supply of raw materials, their contractual obligations in respect of their relationships with subcontractors and their interaction with the Department of Mineral Resources;
  • the plant leasing component of a group of companies in respect of their customised short and long term leasing of heavy earth moving equipment within the mining, civil and construction sector;
  • an entity involved in ongoing litigation in respect of an African based airport construction related dispute against established South African construction company, in ongoing litigation;
  • a well established manufacturer of glass solutions in South Africa in respect of ongoing franchisee litigation;
  • a well established primary tissue paper manufacturing company and its various subsidiaries in respect of construction related disputes; and
  • a company that facilities the housing of cellular and wireless, radio and television broadcast, microwave and two-way radio communications equipment in respect of their multi-tenant leasing model, specifically in relation to commercial lease disputes.
