The Protection of Personal Information Bill was accepted by the President on 19 November 2013 and will come into force in due course. This Act, now known as the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (“POPI”), will apply to all processing of personal information. The Bill was not changed in any significant way prior to being assented to by the President. The commencement date will be published by the President in the Government Gazette in due course.
