It is with great pride that we inform you of our chairman, David Hertz’s Lifetime Achievement Award for Excellence in Commercial Law as well as Werksmans being awarded Law Firm of The Year by the South African Professional Services Awards (SAPSA). These awards recognise outstanding performance and excellence among graduate professionals and professional firms.

David received the awards on Thursday, 14 March 2019 at a gala dinner ceremony. Here is what the judges had to say about David and our firm:

Judges comment (David):

“David is undoubtedly a great contributor to both the firm he leads and the profession to which he belongs. He has an impressive profile having been involved in many high-profile and precedent-setting matters in the field of commercial litigation. He has been a faithful servant of the practice of law for close to three decades. His excellence in this field is recognised both locally and globally and he is deserving of this award given that he has been consistently ranked by several recognised legal publications….”

Judges comment (Werksmans):

“One cannot speak of corporate legal success stories in Africa without including Werksmans in the conversation. It is impressive that the firm recently achieved gold status in a respected company survey. Beyond having their lawyers listed and ranked by various publications, the firm’s ‘inverted professional pyramid’ where directors are directly involved in client matters is refreshing and an idea we found unique in comparison to other firms. Their Pro Bono contribution which earned them an award in 2017 is also noteworthy. Finally, an important criterion for this Award is that of business growth, an area in which Werksmans has excelled because of improved sentiment in the commercial and litigation departments…..”
