Actions speak louder than words

Two of the transactions in which Werksmans acted as legal advisors secured key accolades: BEE Deal of the Year and Business Rescue Transaction of the Year 2022. Additionally, our Cape Town employment team were awarded a pro bono award.
In the BEE Deal of the Year, Werksmans acted as legal advisors to Shoprite Checkers Proprietary Limited, Shoprite Holdings Limited and the Shoprite Employee Trust in respect of the implementation of a B-BBEE transaction in terms of which the Shoprite Employee Trust was established and subscribed for shares in Shoprite Checkers.
The Werksmans team involved in the Deal was led by Pierre le Roux with Ernest Mazansky and Janene Meiring.
Out of the three nominees in the category Business Rescue Transaction of the Year Award for 2022 at DealMakers this year, Werksmans represented two, namely, the sale of the business of Andalusite Resources Proprietary Limited (Andalusite); and the restructuring and disposal of the businesses of two interrelated companies being Consolidated Infrastructure Group Limited (CIG) and Consolidated Power Projects Proprietary Limited (Conco).
The Business Rescue Transaction of the Year for 2022 was awarded to CIG and Conco. Danny Andropoulos and Eric Levenstein advised the boards of CIG and Conco in relation to the business rescue process and Danny Andropoulos was involved in the various disposal transactions in business rescue.
Nastascha Harduth provided advice on the business rescue process. These companies were placed under the supervision of business rescue practitioners Peter van den Steen and Martin Liebenberg of Metis, who appointed Birkett Stewart McHendrie to assist with the disposal processes.
The Werksmans team that participated in the nominated Andalusite transaction, were Eric Levenstein, David Gewer, Adam Pyzikowski, Lauren Becker and Nastascha Harduth. Andalusite was placed under the supervision of business rescue practitioner Gavin Gainsford of GCW Administrators.
Kwanele South Africa Networking Event
The Cape Town employment team led by Jacques van Wyk represented an individual in a case referred by Kwanele.
Kwanele South Africa is an organisation which strives to oppose and assist victims of GBV, where the client alleged she had suffered extreme sexual assault at the hand of her superior. The team acted for her in the initial stages of the hearing and assisted her in preparing her defence to charges which she faced.
Jacques van Wyk and other members of our Employment team received an award of recognition from the founding member of Kwanele for their con. Dakalo Singo has also received an award of recognition from Kwanele for his ongoing assistance in gender-based violence and domestic violence matters.
